Really fascinating. I wonder what else she might have done in life, if not confined to a convent?

A fascinating look at Galileo’s story! I appreciated the first sources included in the text.

The title is misleading - its not really a book about his daughter, rather about Galileo. It was a fine description of information I didn't really know much about so that was good. Otherwise, nothing too special.

Another excellent book by Dava Sobel. She weaves Galileo and his daughter's biographies together with a history of cosmological science that never feels forced or contrived. Having learned about Galileo in history class, I enjoyed learning about the more human side of Galileo - his shrewd navigation of the political climate on the Italian peninsula, stalwart Catholic faith, and temptation to test boundaries with the Church establishment, and, above all, his sweet relationship with his canny daughter, the nun Maria Celeste. Events in the story are explained and augmented by a discussion of the accepted Church view of the nature of the universe in the 17th century and how discoveries through Galileo's telescope threatened it.
