Solid read, blending perspectives on struggles faced by minorities with a futuristic universe and plot that reminded me of "A Long Way to a Small, Distant planet", all in < 100 pages.

This book won both a Hugo Award and a Nebula Award for best novella! The book is set primarily on a space craft headed for Oomza University. Binti is the main character and is from the Himba tribe on Earth. She is a math prodigy and she is the first from her tribe to be accepted to Oomza U. Against her mother's advice Binti leaves her family to board spacecraft that will take her from Earthto Oomza.
The school itself is run by the Khoush, the pale-skinned Earthens. Most of the other passengers on the ship are Khoush and look at Binti as a bit of a curiousity. And then the ship is attacked by an alien race called the Meduse....

This is at its heart a story of accepting differences and learning to properly communicate to help advance harmony.

I definitely recommend this one!

This book counts towards the Book Riot Read Harder Challenge Task #17: a sci-fi/fantasy novella
