This was pretty good. "Tense, spellbinding thriller" it was not. Sometimes, I enjoy books that open with a murder and then go backwards to solve it. But, in this case, I couldn't remember any of the details of the murder so when it was revealed whodunnit, I wasn't shocked. So maybe that's on me. But there were a lot of mundane scenes that were distracting.

A pretty sensational book! I felt a high degree of empathy with the main character. I certainly could do with being more organised like her. An external facade of coping with life stresses is something most of us can relate to.

The plot seems straightforward but is anything but! The relationship with her mother is incredibly strong despite everything that happens. I liked that.

The ending was so creative - and pleasing. I like when there is a few clever twists to finish a book.

My congratulations to the author for such an entertaining read. I loved it.

From the outset we know that our narrator, Nadine, is responsible for the death of a guest at a party she is hosting for her mother’s birthday. We don’t know who or why, but the book takes us through the build-up to the party so we can learn how she comes to be in this situation.
Nadine is the daughter of a celebrated crime writer. Lots of people are fascinated by her story, but those close to her are good at keeping secrets. As the book progresses it becomes clear that one secret is definitely not known about by many…and just how significant that is becomes clear.
It was hard to warm to Nadine. A woman who seems to have everything but who risks it all simply to alleviate her feelings of boredom. We can see the impact her past has had on her, though once we realise the significance of some characters it becomes more apparent where this is headed.
