A Death at the Party

Nadine is throwing an extravagant party for her family and friends. By the end of the night she has murdered one of her guests - but who and why?

A Death at the Party is a brilliant read full of shocks and surprises.

I love that you start off knowing that Nadine killed someone, but you don't know who or why. It really digs into what could drive someone to murder.

I found the family secrets to be very intriguing because there was so much more to the story than you first realise. The variety of characters worked well because they all brought something different to the plot.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book and would recommend if you love a murder mystery with a twist.

Thank you NetGalley and Penguin for sending this book for review consideration. All opinions are my own.

The 60th birthday party for a celebrated author is in full swing but tucked away in a dark corner of the house, a guest has expired. Who and why? Built on painful secrets, the family is rife with motives.

There were so many layers to this story and virtually every character had an indiscretion they needed to hide. With all of the twists and turns, it would seem that the book would rapidly become too complicated to follow - not so. Somehow, the author juggled the threads of at least a dozen main characters while allowing the reader to follow along effortlessly. This novel is a slow burn that ends with a spectacular flash-bang at the end.

Thank you to Netgalley and Simon & Schuster for the chance to read this eARC. As always, my opinions are my own, honest and true.

I really enjoyed this book. It’s very slow paced, and although it’s only 200 pages, it took me longer than I expected to get through it. It’s not very action packed, it doesn’t have the heart racing plot twists that I usually enjoy in mysteries/thrillers. But I felt like it had some beautiful relationships, especially between the female characters, that were really well fleshed out. The ending was satisfying. The story felt realistic but had an old money vibe that felt magical to me. I really enjoyed this book overall and will definitely be reading more of this author. I also think it was very creative that the entire story takes place over the course of one day.

A bit of a slow start to this book, it started with a death and then replayed the day leading up to it with lots of secrets being revealed along the way.

My thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for an ARC of this book.

Nadine Walsh is hosting her mothers 60th birthday party but then there is a death at the party. The story then really begins as it looks at the events leading up to and during that fateful event. I wanted to love this book, the storyline intrigued me. I found it to be very predictable, even the twist was something I expected to happen. The ending left me feeling a little deflated, I was expecting given the circumstances surrounding it. The writing made it an easy read so once I got reading, it was a quick one to get stuck in to.
