Excellent fast read.
One of the better thrillers I’ve read in the past few years. Strong women characters, fast paced, and well crafted.

The plot takes place over the course of one day and the author makes excellent use of flashbacks to explain character behavior. By the end, I loved characters I thought I would hate and vice versa. This was a satisfying read and I devoured it. I’ll be looking for more by this author!

I would first like to say thank you to Penguin Random House for providing me with this ARC.

I have to say, I enjoyed this book, I empathised with Nadidne, a woman trying her best to hold it all together while inside she is crumbling. The storyline had me gripped from the beginning and I kept thinking that I knew who the victim was, only to realise that that could be the case. I found the duel storylines of River and Colleen really well written and again I couldn't work out the correlation and I certainly didn't see the family bombshell coming!

I give this book 4 out of 5 stars.

This was an enjoyable read full of flawed characters and plenty of secrets.

It opens with a woman standing over a dying man in her basement as he calls her a bitch...

The story then unfolds over the course of 18 hours or so as Nadine prepares for a large party she is hosting to celebrate her famous author mother's 60th birthday.  The day is marred somewhat as it's also the anniversary of the death of Nadine's aunt who died as a child.

The family lives in a somewhat incestuous street in a suburb, everybody seems to know everybody else's business, many of them grew up together in farming country.

As Nadine works her way through he to do list she comes gradually more and more undone, and we learn more and more about what has been happening, both 30 years ago and in more recent weeks and months.

Not an author I've read before but definitely one I'll look out for again

Thank you to Netgalley, Simon & Schuster Canada, and Amy Stuart for the advanced reader copy in exchange for my opinion.
The book was fast-paced and kept me entertained from the very first page. This is the first book I read from the author, and it definitely won't be my last.
Nadine Walsh, the main character, is very manipulative and unlikable, but that is what makes the story even more believable. The whole story unfolds during an entire day, from morning until the end of the day, where the party in question happens. With past references that unfold nicely towards the last third of the book, it is a well narrated story that kept me on my toes until the end.
I like the way the author makes the story flow without getting stuck on unnecessary details. While there's an aura of suspense and mystery which I find was well executed, I wouldn't categorize it as a thriller. Definitely recommend it if you're looking for a catchy mystery/suspense novel.

Packed with secrets, mostly satisfying ending. Enjoyably fucked up narrator

This book follows the lead up of Nadine planning a party for her mother which is also tbd anniversary of a death of a family member. The story explains the history of everything and winds past and present together nicely. The book was kind of a slow build with some small twists happening at the end.
