Generally I love to listen to memoirs via Audio especially when the narrator is the subject. This was painful to listen to, poorly written and terrible narration. Just a disappointment at every turn.

I really enjoyed this memoir from Karen! I have always thought that she was a bit misunderstood on Mob Wives, and this really provided great insight into who she is and why she is who she is. I think that she still has a lot of trauma to work through, but I appreciated this book for what it was.

Really like her. Love reading about the mob and seeing what it was like being on the other side of it.

I didn't know what I was looking for out of this but I guess I found it because I absolutely loved this flew through it so quickly. I watched Mob Wives when it was on VH1 and really enjoyed the show but wasn't always the fondest of Karen but that didn't impact this for me at all. This was the story of how Karen grew up originally not knowing what her father did and then how she started to learn more about it and the impacts it had on her life.

I've been really wanting to read some more mafia based nonfiction after picking up a Frank Sinatra memoir on his involvement. This really hit the spot for me and I might even try and find something else. One of the best parts in this book for me was how she grew up with the feds monitoring her entire life but by the end of the investigations they became extremely found of her and her family. I feel like this is probably something that happened a lot but is not what is talked about in books on the topic.

I've always enjoyed memoirs and this wasn't different. If you want something that is fun, fast paced, and a little on the dangerous side I would highly suggest this read/audiobook.

4.5 Stars, so I rounded up to 5 :)

"Karen Gravano is the daughter of Sammy Gravano, once one of the mafia's most feared hit men. With nineteen confessed murders, the former Gambino Crime Family underboss”and John's right-hand man”is the highest ranking gangster ever to turn State's evidence and testify against members of his high-profile crime family. But to Karen, Sammy Gravano was a sometimes elusive but always loving father figure. He was ever-present at the head of the dinner table. He made a living running a construction firm and several nightclubs. He stayed out late, and sometimes he didn't come home at all. He hosted meetings at their house, and had countless whispered conversations with a business associates. By the age of twelve, Karen knew he was a gangster. And as she grew up, while her peers worried about clothes and schoolwork, she was coming face-to-face with crime and murder. Gravano was nineteen years old when her father turned his back on the mob and cooperated with the Feds. The fabric of her family was ripped apart, and they were instantly rejected by the communities they grew up in. This is the story of a daughters struggle to reconcile the image of her loving father with that of a murdering Mafioso, and how, in healing the rift between the two, she was able to forge a new life."

Not exactly what I expected, but a decent read.
