Ah this wasn't it. The first few books in this series had a better balance of plot and romance and a better balance of dark and hope and this was dark without needing to be. I get why this relationship had to close the plot loops and set everything up and also how little room there was to maneuver with how the shadow man only watches and doesn't help but eish.

Don’t skip the TWs on this one, wow it’s sad and difficult. But I loved Lyla as a main character, so strong even through the worst life. The Shadow Man is a lot, but the way he feels about her is pretty cute and obviously OTT.

DARK Romance, Stalking, Emotional, 4 🔥

Trigger warnings GALORE. I don’t need trigger warnings myself but this one basically has them all. I think I liked the idea of the main characters more than I actually like them if that makes sense. There was so much potential here and it just felt wasted on sex scenes that were incredibly visual and graphic and happening way to quick in my opinion. SPOILERS AHEAD

It felt completely unrealistic that someone who had been a sex slave that was abused and raped since she was a child was so quick to let an assassin possessive alpha male dominate her. Perhaps if it was written better or somewhat more sensitively it wouldn’t have left a strange taste in my mouth. I like that he watches out for her and had her best interests in mind, and I loved that she felt safe with him, but something about the way certain scenes were written just gave me the ick. Didn’t hate it, didn’t love it, and made it to the end at least. But at this point I’m just finishing the books so I can figure out who the head hauncho bad guy is.

I can not stress enough how much I loved this book, and this series as a whole. In my opinion, The Annihilator is the darkest book of all five books, and while I cried like a baby over a woman making a cup of tea, this read was everything I love about the world RuNyx has given her readers. It's dark, twisted, scary, SPICY, and the men are adamant about writing wrongs, while the woman regardless of how many times they fall, they get back up. Great read, and just a fantastic series altogether.

2.5 stars//

this book was disturbing,, if the author hadn't actually noted the fact that there would be stockholm syndrome, a sociopath, and cnc it wouldve been worse. at least she did cnc right even though i did see some recurring themes from the Haunting Adeline duet and i dont know if it is inspired by it, but it wasn't as graphic or explicit as Haunting Adeline/Hunting Adeline. it is still pretty strange and the mc was also borderline creepy with the way he controlled Lyla. nevertheless, that was already noted in the beginning. idk how i feel about this book; part of me is glad we got more about the plot but it also wasn't moving forward. don't like this couple bc it's just a weird dynamic with the whole stockholm syndrome/stalker situation and the guy said some dumb shit at alot of points,, meh idk
