I really liked the historical tone of the book, with its meandering story and wandering footnotes, which I felt paired very well with the wonder around magic and the lack of hard exploration of the potential thereof in advance. I did find the ending to be a bit unsatisfying, especially since
Norrell's redemption
seemed unearned in my eyes.

Fantastic read. Bit long but really puts you in the place. Characters are well developed and Susanna Clarke's plot is excellent. However, think the best aspect of the book is the way she creates a full realized world, so much richer than a mere setting, early nineteenth century London seems to be a real place that she is simply telling us about not bending to suit her story.

…I got about half way through before I started getting bored, but several people in my life whose opinions I respect have told me to push through so I will make an attempt to return some day!

This was more boring than a math textbook. Honestly, whoever said that this was as good as Jane Austen needs to get their eyes checked.
