Okay so I LOVED this book!
The action elements were fun, the sexual tension and chemistry between the leads was delicious, the world is super interesting complex but easy to follow.
I enjoyed this ride and can't wait to read the second book!

Absolute shivers
This book was an ARC read that I was late getting too but oh my, I’m glad I finally had time to sit down and read this. It was read in two settings and I positively INHALED it.
The Secrets of Jane has a descriptor of enemies to lovers with a mercenary MMC, and a mysterious/feisty FMC. I agree with those tropes however I disagree with the epic pirate world. While there are pirates within this world, the predominant theme revolves around mercenaries and “pets”. That doesn’t negatively effect my review, though, as I love the world building that’s been done!
Jane is the definition of a FMC with trust issues stemming from her childhood. A modern day therapist would have their work cut out for themselves figuring her out. She’s so intensely guarded and, because of innate trust issues, she’s almost alone in this world.
Soren is different than I expected his character to be but I love the emotional depth we gain as we uncover his backstory. Without revealing it, I hope the second book really dives into his true motives for joining the Zenith’s.
The violent, passionate desire that Soren feels for Jane as “he falls first” in part one of this duet can only be described as extremely satisfying. If you have never felt this way about someone, you won’t understand the feeling but I love the way he’s described as he tries to earn Jane’s heart.
Now, that cliffhanger. I knew going in there was going to be a cliffhanger and I don’t mind them. If they are well done, they win the book for me. By the time I was 20% into this book, I knew it a was going to be a 5 star read unless Charlotte disappointed me with her cliffhanger. Let me tell you now, loves, she did not disappoint.
As I read the last few paragraphs that I had been eagerly awaiting, I broke out in actual goosebumps and felt a chill go down my spine. It was THAT good. I will be (im)patiently waiting for book two in 2024. It better answer all my questions!
This review is entirely my own.
