Hmm it was okay! I think I’m getting a bit tired and bored of the drugs crimes and being murdered over drugs. It’s like the same but different. I thought the antique box was a nice choice. I liked how this book had a lot more emotional depth and we sadly lost a MC Stephen. The dementia story line really was sad. I like the characters and how they grow and the relationships develop. I think that’s the only reason why I pick it up..

In the fourth installment of Richard Osman's series, "The Last Devil to Die," I found myself grappling with a departure from the cozy mystery style that initially drew me in. I appreciate the depth and emotional weight this book carries, it feels more like a personal reflection on life and loss than a traditional whodunit.
The narrative takes a poignant turn as we witness the characters navigate grief after losing an integral figure introduced early in the story. This heavy theme adds complexity but also shifts the tone significantly from previous books. For fans expecting lighthearted sleuthing, this may come as a surprise, like it did for me.
That said, Osman crafts a perfect ending for these beloved characters if he chooses not to continue the series. It’s bittersweet yet fitting, leaving readers with lingering thoughts about life’s fragility. Overall, while I miss the familiar cozy vibe, I respect Osman's bold storytelling choices.
