The most annoying in the series. Revolves around Mercy being badgered by an FBI agent to snitch on Gabriel. You'd think that a simple, "I won't talk to you without a lawyer," would suffice, but Mercy never says those words, so we have to listen to her whiny inner conflict for ages. While logically it makes sense to have this conflict, it drags on longer than necessary, especially considering she should already know to not saying anything to the feds. First rule of having a criminal boyfriend is to not say anything to anyone, and she clearly knows he's a criminal, even if she doesn't know the full extent. Honestly, a general rule for everyone is to not talk to law enforcement without a lawyer, regardless of if you've broken any laws. It's just good practice, to protect yourself from becoming entrenched in something you want no parts of.
Also, being shocked by your criminal boyfriend engaging in criminal activity can only happen so many times before you just sound stupid, and Mercy is toeing that line hard.

We are still in this romance and this one has some major twists and turns. Trip to Vegas that goes super wrong. It also ends on a major cliffhanger.

One of the best ways I could do describe Nina West's books is devourable. They're super quick to read, they're steamy and absolutely bingeable. Dirty Empire
is book 3 and it wasn't too long ago that Nina mentioned this would not be the conclusion of the series, even though I knew that, it still caught me off guard a little at the end.
If Gabriel Fallen
is fresh in your mind then you know how much of a killer that cliffhanger ending was. It had my mind reeling and I couldn't stop thinking about it. Thankfully things pick up right where they left off. Lives were threatened, some were lost and that has left both Mercy and Gabriel a bit off-balance, not only with each other and their "relationship" but their lives as well.

Dirty Empire by Nina West a/k/a K. A. Tucker is the 3rd book in the series and it takes the mobster aspect of this series to a new level! This is the book where Mercy starts learning more about Gabriel’s family business. This is a 2020 release that just came out this month.
Such a great series! Waiting for the next book is going to be torture.
