4.5 I read this book many years ago (in German, "Die Erbin des Lichts"), forgot the title and then recently found it again. I was prepared to be disappointed when rereading it, but to my very happy surprise I still loved it. A part of that may be nostalgia, and I also think that I wouldn't have enjoyed it as much if I hadn't remembered the epilogue from back then. It made me look at Antonya in a slightly different light. The book is harsh, with brutal realities of power and the consequences of striving for it, and I enjoyed the characters, the politics, and the plot. The book also has a great subversion of a trope that I haven't seen elsewhere often (spoiler, unfortunately.)

2018: I have also read this in English now and I like the writing too.
