"He had faced up to real terror...so what were these two boys to him."

*Spoilers* The most grousome and exciting death scene I have ever read in a kids book.

The book reads more slowly than the Alex Rider series. Not the best book for reluctant readers, but for children who devour spy novels, this introduction to Bond might be just the thing.

Young james Bond--fun adventure. Entertaining enough for adults, but perfectly acceptable for young readers. There are several books in this series and I think I will read another.

It takes a while for it to feel like a Bond book, with the first third feeling like Harry Potter (including a school bully with an overbearing father), the mid-third is a bit Famous Five with Bond (and a red headed friend he met on the train (more Potter)) larking around in the woods. But the final third has tunnels to crawl down, dangerous trees, sinister lochs, and a plan for world dominance.

This was recommended to me after I read some of the Young Sherlock Holmes books. This is much better. If you like James Bond, they have little special tidbits for you (he learns to drive his Aston Martin, etc) you meet his surviving family and he gets a great side kick in Red Kelly. In true Bond fashion, his escape is truly harrowing and he mostly does it alone. I thought this was a great start to a series and I can't wait to read the next one. A reluctant reader would enjoy the action although the Eton school format may be a little foreign. Great read.

I read this book one summer when I was a kid. It was amazing, and I didn't put it down!
