I adore idiots in love.
Carriger can always be relied on for a feel-good story. This one is full of ups and downs and a lot of heart. The magic is interesting, the romance is smoking hot, and the found family is off-the-charts comforting. Conversations between characters about the serious stuff are breathtakingly meaningful. It's a whole package of a book, and I can't wait to read the rest of the series.

I guess what I wanted was The Parasol Protectorate, but gay. Instead, I got a heavy helping of M/M erotica tropes, overwrought drama, angst that made no sense, and a world that seems much more interesting than we were allowed to see. I want more of this series, but with less insta-love, more character development, and more about the world the characters inhabit.
And more Manifest Destiny! She was the highlight of the book.

so the actual politics of it and magic system is super confusing, and in my opinion, it doesn’t even barely level up to soulless. but it’s an entertaining silly read and i had fun with it, even if i’m not certain if some of the gay stereotypes are constructive and idk if the use of gay as an adjective in some of the circumstances it appears in in this book are all that cool.

Some of the descriptions were a little too odd to be real. But a fun book with very sarcastic characters which made it a fun read.

what an exciting new world ms.Carriger has made. I love the pack and especially Bryan. Max made me want to throat chop him ...but only bc he hurt Bryan..and Bryan wouldn't let me anyway lol aether set free in the world is a new way about it. I'm excited for San Andreas book 2!!

Enjoyable book, I liked the expansion of the fantasy universe set up in the 'Parasol' series and more supernatural creatures and magic abilities. Lots of gay sex, which is good but also a bit much at times. It did feel more like a set up for a series with less of it's own agency but I am looking forward to the progress of this new pack and relationships.

I once read a review of Poison or Protect that blasted it as pornography. I really, really hope that person gives The Sumage Solution a wide berth because if you thought Poison or Protect was racy, you ain’t seen nothin’ yet.

It had all of the things that I love about Gail’s work (supernaturals, queer elements, witty banter, etc) but this book was just a miss for me. It was a lot of little things that added up that made me dislike it more than just on large thing that put me off it.
Would I read more books in the The San Andreas Shifters series, should they come out? Possibly. I don’t know if I’d care to read more about Biff and Max. I would love to read more about the side characters, of the rest of the pack members. However, this series does not inspire me to read it over and over and over again the way Parasolverse does.
The Sumage Solution was simply just not me, even though I desperately want it to be. Your mileage may vary; go ahead and give it a go. You might like it more than I do.
