"You can see for yourself that life is hard enough without being punished for it afterwards. We get comfort when we die, that's the whole idea."

A grandmother and her motherless grandchild meander around on different adventures in a beautifully-written natural world as they ponder little things like new neighbors and pet cats, or big things like God, fading memory, grief and the passing of time. Along the way several chapters will stand out amongst the others, with the final chapter being one of my favorites I have ever read.

The book will feel like it is dragging here and there, and the direction will feel a bit aimless and repetitive, but that is life on an island in the summer.

I mean it's cute. It's summer-y. Writing style is kinda for children? Is this whole book for children? I literally can't tell.
