Sweet little collection of short stories about a girl and her grandmother on an island. beautiful, vivid descriptions - perfect summer read as the title suggests. just ended up being a little slow and underdeveloped for me. 3.5 stars

This was my first foray into Tove Jansson's work, and I enjoyed it very much. It's peaceful and simple, yet with frequent flashes of insight. I love the way Sophia and her grandmother argue—and the way they help each other.
