Another great Nick Dixon Novel.

To be honest, I learnt a bit about Horse Racing that I wasn't aware of. Unfortunately that has resulted in me spending most of the last two days doing some additional 'research' into the subject matter.

I feel the characters probably were a little more convincing in this novel, although I would still have my normal complaint about the lack of a little more character substance.

I can't take anything away from the crime aspect though, and I know a lot of people are happy to have more focus on the crime/mystery then the characters themselves.

An easy read with likeable characters who always seem tone in the thick of it and sport more injuries than a hospital orthopaedic ward.

The murders have been quite interesting and I keep coming back to see what Dixon gets into next (this one also doesn't disappoint). The pacing of the investigation was great - I found it to be a nice balance between the expectedly slow procedural bits and the snowballing action.

Definitely getting settled in to Boyd's writing style and finding that I'm quite enjoying it.

The banter between Jane and Nick is really cute.

2.5 stars. Ok story. Slow moving at times. Good but not great. Characters are ok.

The third outing for DCI Nick Dixon and like the previous two it rattles along at a fair old pace as Dixon and his small team investigate the death of a groom at a horse racing stables. There are free herrings and twists along the way and the dynamic among the team is as engaging as always. Another strong, solid read.

My only real disappointment in this book is that it's the last one currently available in the series.

DI Nick Dixon and his partner Jane are looking into the death of a young stable hand, originally deemed an accident. Nick is recovering from a stab wound, but that doesn't affect his detecting skills (or drinking ability LOL).

A foray into the horse racing world in Great Britain - which doesn't overtake the story line.

Thank you to NetGalley for a copy of this book. Another well-written, fast-paced mystery starring Nick Dixon. This time involving horse racing and murder. I have to say, I learned quite a bit about betting on horses and some details about tack used in racing. All that was really interesting and then there's murder and conspiracy thrown in. Well worth the read.
