Incredibly delightful and the writing style of obvious humor presented as fact made me slow down at points so I could properly read between the lines. It was insta-love but the romance was steamy and adorable and I loved that they were both equally smitten with the other. Also I love birds so this book was a very pleasant diversion. Quick read, easy romance, non-serious plot.

This book was such a surprisingly charming delight! I went in with pretty low expectations—not knowing much about it—but having enjoyed similar books, I was hopeful. And I’m so glad I gave it a chance, because it ended up being a real treat. I found myself smiling almost the entire time I was reading.

The main characters were wonderfully flawed, but what made them so lovable was their awareness of those imperfections—and the way they were genuinely enchanted by each other’s quirks in such a sincere, heartwarming way. I can’t wait to dive into the second book and hope it brings the same warmth to my heart and soul!

Beth Pickering is working with her friend, Hippolyta Quirm, to find the deathwhistler bird. They are almost close enough to capture the bird, but then Devon Lockely and Klaus Oberhufter nab the bird from right under their noses. Needless to say, this sets off a bit of competition between these four. Beth is the youngest professor of ornithology at Oxford; and Devon is a professor of ornithology at Cambridge. Although they are rivals in their field, they have a hard time denying the attraction between them. Then, the International Ornithological Society starts a competition to find the caladrius bird, The winner will become Birder of the Year and gets tenure at their university. Of course, Beth and Devon both want to win this very badly. Things get really interesting when they team up to find this bird. And of course, they might have to deal with hotel rooms with only one bed or no beds. This book felt like a mix of genres- historical fiction, fantasy, and romance. None of the birds are real, luckily, because most of them could hurt or kill humans. At times the book did seem a bit silly, but it was overall fun and enjoyable.

NO ONE writes a man like India Holton! There isn’t a thing Devon wouldn’t do for Beth, and by Jove, I’d risk it all for both of them. As always from Holton, this one was a wild romp with as much craziness as one can write into a book. Vivid imagery, lovable characters, and Phineas and Ferb level wackadoo B plots.
