Okay my love for this series already knows no bounds from the first book alone but to get a SEQUEL and not only that but one following my FAVORITE character? I was already so deeply invested in the book the moment it landed in my hands.

Now that is not to say that I had no hesitations about People Need a Storm because I did. I loved the first book because I loved Silas and Theo and I was heavily connected to them. For as much as I loved and enjoyed Jack I was wary that I may not connect to him as deeply as I did the others, but let me tell you now, I was WRONG.

Jack's story gives this series a breath of fresh air that not only invigorates the story but feels familiar and comforting in a way that is reminiscent of Silas'. I fell in love with the character all over again and this series and I have no doubt that you will as well!

Cindy Paul pulls no punches in this sequel and you simply MUST give it a read if you adored book 1.

While this book is an easy read, it does take a long while before anything really happens. It does help we find out more about the characters and their pasts. The ending was pretty good and made me want to pick up the next book.

What bugs me the most is the amount of references to pop culture and there are A LOT. Characters and scenes are often described by mentioning characters from other books and movies. A bummer. That indicates I have to know all these characters and references. If you don't or simply don't remember much about them a lot of paragraphs and conversations are lost. A reference here and there would be fine, but this was simply too much. I want to know what makes Silas Silas, Jack Jack and August August. I don't want whole explanations about Twilight characters. In that case I might as well read Twilight.

While I am at it... a trigger warning for a couple of Harry Potter references. I'll give the author the benefits of the doubts as this book was written and released around the time people found out JKR is everything but LGBTQIA+ friendly.

Ohhh my god how did I forget how much of a roller-coaster this book is?? Damn. Well, anyway, strap yourself in and take this ride because it ramps up all of the tension (and then some) and lays out even more characters in depth, and then proceeds to leave you on a cliffhanger. Anyway, I'm picking up the third book right away...

Oh.

Let that “oh.” please sink in for a little bit. Not because I’m convinced you need it, but mostly because I DO.
I’m trying to let this insane journey settle in my bones, but last time I checked (10 seconds ago) they’re still rattled.

When I started this series, I enjoyed “People notice the rain” endlessly, and I did! After 9 months tho...I’d kinda forgotten a lot about it, to the point I only knew to place the names “Silas” and “Theo”. It was mostly their story after all, a very beautifully crafted and tender one at that (and funny and at times heart wrenching and painful).
I reread it, and discovered the exact reason I gave it 5 stars, not because I want to support the author, not because I want to support anything local, but because the book plainly deserves those 5 stars. Because reading it transports me like no other book and has me kicking my legs in excitement and screaming out loud and crying! From laughter, and from feeling for all these lovely complex characters.

Now moving on to the ACTUAL book this is about:

Cindy Paul manages to create incredibly diverse and realistic characters, and it’s mind blowing to me. They are all memorable and special in their own ways, not due to intense and conflicting character traits and talents, but simply because they’re...relatable? They’re just...people, and they have their pasts and thoughts and feelings and reasonings and it fits. It just really makes sense.

As a D&D lover myself, it really does sometimes feel as if you’re witnessing a campaign with characters that do things that make you want to slap them, although a voice in the back of your head says: makes sense for them to do that tho....

I love this story and the plot! I love the different storylines and the dynamic between different relationships. I love that I got to know these characters a LOT better. AND I LOVE JACK
