As much as I’ve come to like Alex and Shelby - and I love the setting in Australia - I find the main storyline and mystery over complicated, and I am annoyed by Shelby’s family.
Like, their feelings about Alex are understandable to a point, and create some entertaining moments, but it just goes on too long and gets less believable. and annoying, haha.

2nd Alex POV book, in which we go to Australia to deal with werewolves. A reasonable whodunit (er, whoisit?). So, so, so many Australia jokes. Since they were mostly about the dangerous things that live there, it didn't exactly make me want to visit.

I truly enjoy the InCryptid novels by Seanan McGuire (and everything she writes), but boy, the covers are genuinely awful. More embarrassing than a Danielle Steele and these aren't even romance novels. Regardless, as per usual she has epic world building and extreme mythological detail. Only 3 stars because I didn't love Alex and this book felt a little forced. The death of a minor nameless character (trying to stay spoiler free) was the one part of that felt very genuine to me. I felt what Alex felt there.

HAIL! Any book in this universe is awesome. Although I prefer Verity's stories to Alex's, I truly enjoyed this supernatural romp through the dangers of Australia. The Aeslin mice, as always, make me happier than just about any species ever invented.

Another good one! I've noticed that this series is up and down in terms of how dark it gets -- it seems like every other books gets pretty dark and dire, while the others are much more silly and upbeat. That's okay -- I'm totally engaged by the adventures of the Price family, and plan to keep going.

3.5 stars but rounding up because of the Aeslin mice who have my heart!

I liked this book so much better than the previous installment. Maybe I was more used to Alex and Shelby and their personalities. Maybe I enjoyed the world of Australia and the Thirty-Sixers more than a reptilian cryptid community in Ohio. Maybe the Aeslin mice were given a tiny bit more of the spotlight. Maybe I am a werewolf junkie.
(Okay, we all know I AM a werewolf junkie.)
For whatever reason (...werewolves...oh and the mice!) this novel was just pure fun to read. So much fun that I've decided to reread the series and then move on to the newer books that have come out.
If you want an interesting urban fantasy series that walks a fine line between urban fantasy, fantasy, and the supernatural this one might be just up your alley.
