Dear Dolly, this collection of writing on love, life, and friendship changed the way I think about it all.

I cannot begin to tell you what an incredible writer Dolly Alderton is, nothing I say could do her justice. So what I will say is pick up her works and experience her words for yourself.

Dear Dolly pulled me out of the biggest reading slump in less than 24 hours with captivating dialogue on the various facets of the human experience. This book is filled with comfort and wit, depth and humour. Alderton writes with empathy and offers balanced perspectives on the subjects she is addressing. I have underlined so many passages of this collection.

Perhaps one of my favourite things she has written is: “Keep putting love out into the world and it will come back to you in one way or another. That, I’ve learned, is one of life’s only guarantees.” 🤍

Reading this book has taught me  how to look at life and all the challenges it presents with a little more grace because it’s no easy thing to be human. I’ve learned that the most loving thing we can do for each other and ourselves is to be authentic with who and where we are. I’ve also learned that if Dolly Alderton writes it, I will read it (and then make everyone around me read it too)!

While I loved Dolly Alderton's memoir, part of me was worried that I look back on it with rose-tinted glasses and that I wouldn't like Dear Dolly as much, but boy was I wrong. This book is what I think I expected her memoir to be - short chunks of life advice on varied topics - so that was a great surprise and it had all the humor and warmth of Alderton's writing that I'd loved last time.

Unfortunately I borrowed this book from a friend so I didn't get to annotate it, but that gives me an excuse to read this a second time once I get my own copy.
