The characters were beautifully written and the plot was intriguing, however, I feel like there could have been more to it. It was a spooky book but it did not scare me, although parts dragged me in. That being said there is a Mary shaped section of my heart.

I’d deffo give this 3.5 stars! ⭐️⭐️⭐️.5

There’s nothing more that I love than a Victorian setting - a Scottish Island in the middle of nowhere full of mystery. I felt a bit marmite about most of the characters - most of them were unlikable or annoying, and Elspeth at times was just dwelling so much on the past it took me right out of the story. BUT THAT BEING SAID - I am a suuuucker for witchcraft in an isolated village setting. I love mystery surrounding death or reasons for departure, and the way that this was written was just lovely. I love flowery descriptions and I really did get into the world surrounded Iskar and Gulls Rest.

Samotný příběh brzy nabere jiný směr, snad dokonce ještě o něco temnější a tajemnější, realitou se prolínají záblesky představ, i když hranice samotné, nikdy nejsou pevně vymezené. A to vše, skoro až do samotného konce.
