Cute story about the family pets Harold the dog and Chester the cat being boarded while the family is away. While they are being boarded they solve a murder/missing pet mystery. It's not quite as adorable as Bunnicula, and Bunnicula himself is not even in this book which is disappointing.

It's not quite the great classic Bunnicula is, but it was an entertaining read. Kind of odd to see all the murder mystery tropes play out amongst cats and dogs at a middle grade level... Parts of it felt a little inappropriate for the age group to me because of the tropes they played off of, but that ma have just been because of coming in with my adult assumptions and impressions.
Moderate: Animal death, Murder
Minor: Infidelity
Harold and Chester are back and staying at the Chateau Bow Wow while their humans go away on vacation. Lucky Bunnicula (who is missing from the adventure) gets to stay at the neighbor's house.
Chateau Bow Wow is a facility that seems to be cursed or haunted as the occupants begin to disappear. Chester and Harold gear up to be investigators/detectives to solve the mystery. Harold suspects a murderer is afoot. Chester suspects werewolves. Soon Chester goes missing, leaving Harold alone to try to stop what's going on.
In my opinion, not quite as good as the first, but still an excellent read. This is a fun way to introduce young animal lovers to the mystery genre!

I liked the additional characters but missed the bunny.

I remember these books being quite funny when I read them as a child.
I was quite happy to find that this remained quite entertaining as an adult, and additionally I was able to derive more meaning from some statements, due to actually having life experience.
For sure worth an adult re-read.
And if you're a kid, it's worth it too!

Read with Bunnicula (as it should be). A re-read from my childhood.
I love Howard the dog and Chester the Cat. The snobby and know it all cat and the bumbling dog are whisked away to the Bowwow hotel while the family goes on vacation. But if you read Bunnicula, then you know that these two find a mystery is all things. As always a great read for the family for the season.
