3.3 AVERAGE

Beauty's Punishment is the continuation of The Claiming of Sleeping Beauty, Anne Rice's erotic retelling of the popular fairy tale.

This took me a lot longer to read than I anticipated, and I'm not sure why. It was okay, certainly not anything to write home about.

lol wut

I did read this series, but since the author does not support anonymity for readers (only authors are allowed such luxury, apparently), I am removing my rating.

My favorite out of the trilogy.

This book starts after the surprising events/decision of beauty at the end of the first book. She is off with a cart full of other naughty and misbehaving slaves on their way down to the village. I'll try not to be too spoiler-y in this but upon arrival, they are auctioned off to the inhabitants of the town. This event is apparently highly anticipated by the people and it's mentioned that townsfolk save their money all year for the chance to turn a prince or prince into their slave.

The BDSM in this book is more hardcore in my opinion in a good way. I really really enjoyed reading about the various situations the cast of characters was put into and also the various slaves' (Beauty included) experiences and perspectives. Honestly, if you couldn't get into the first one this could be read as a stand-alone just fine.

Title: Beauty’s Punishment

Author: Anne Rice

Genre: Romance/Erotica/ BDSM

Rating: ***

Review: This sequel to The Claiming of Sleeping Beauty, the first of Anne Rice’s (writing as A.N. Roquelaure) elegantly written volumes of erotica, continues her explicit, teasing exploration of the psychology of human desire. Now Beauty, having indulged in a secret and forbidden infatuation with the rebellious slave Prince Tristan, is sent away from the Satyricon-like world of the Castle. Sold at auction, she will soon experience the tantalizing punishments of “the village,” as her education in love, cruelty, dominance, submission, and tenderness is turned over to the brazenly handsome Captain of the Guard. And once again Rice’s fabulous tale of pleasure and pain dares to explore the most primal and well-hidden desires of the human heart.

The punishment in the village for Beauty really in my mind was not as bad as it possibly could have been. I think the worst part was when she was auctioned off. She was showed to the village like she was some sex depraved mule. Luckily she was purchased by a wealthy woman inn keeper but in reality Beauty was not so lucky when it came to the punishment the woman would inflict on her.

Personally if I was Beauty I would have rather been in the village with the inn keeper than at the castle with the not so charming prince. In this one once again I will not going to too much detail for the protection of the innocence out there but if you are looking for a really off the wall S and M slash erotica read this one might be just your cup of tea. Please keep in mind though it is very graphic with sex, violence, and is not the straight laced type of erotica you would commonly think of. In case you are wondering yes I am reading the last book in the series right now called “Beauty’s Release” and will be reviewing that one also.

This book is much better than the first for me that one was just so degrading but looking back I think that was meant to break Beauty so she could be the perfect slave. She had to experience the degradation to do her service and there just was no way around that. I enjoyed that the awful prince was not present in this book instead the romantic aspect is replaced by the hunky stallion Tristan ooh he even has a hot name. Tristan was a pleasant shift from the castles prince. I am glad I have started this because I need a bit of variety in my life and this is for me gone from one extreme to the other. Change is good when you’re in the mood for it.

I should have really been finished with this book alot sooner but I had to take a break from it. I could throughly handle all the subject matter but at times it just became tedious with all the beatings and sex. Knowing about some of the aspects of the BDSM lifestyle made me think like are you really serious? But then I had to remember that this was a book and it was entertainment purposes. I didn't become interested in the story until the very ending and now I am considering reading the third book in the future because before I was dead set against it.

even more vulgar but still...

Beauty is back, and like any 15 year old her love is fickle. The Prince that saved her, who? She is so over Alexi, and out of the blue mad for Tristan. She and Tristan have been sent to the village outside the Castle where servitude is worse and rape and humiliation are even more rampant. The book is about 250 pages and 50 of them are actual story. The other 200 pages are graphic sex scene’s of hardcore BDSM. I wish one or two of them were actually be hot and not so rapey. Can someone please explain to me how no one get’s pregnant? There are all these healthy teenage girls have unprotected sex and they are being ejaculated inside of. And don’t even get me started on STD’s? I didn’t like this book, but I will see the trilogy through. The first one was ok, maybe the third time is the charm.
