Zane Koss’s work is a product of quiet brilliance. The poems invite participation and test the reader’s perspicacity. Each page consists of a grid comprised of the letter s; words replace the s in seemingly random fashion. However, I found as I read, the participation the volume invites is that of deciding which direction to read. The multiplicity of meanings that emerges makes the reader choose between reading right to left or reading each grid independent of the other grids. Highly recommend.

I didn’t love the delivery of this poem. It was read so slowly/robotically and without emotion; even on 1.5 speed it was still slow and monotone. I understand why the background ambient noise of the city was included but it was very distracting/a sensory nightmare.

I love poetry, but this one took a minute to sink in. When listening to an audiobook - the choice of narrator is an essential component because they are responsible for conveying the story to the reader. As much as I wanted to blame the lack of enthusiasm on the narrator, I couldn't because the author narrated the audiobook. So I'm sure he knew how he wanted to convey his words to the reader. I would have had a better experience reading the paperback version, but at this point, I'm not in a rush to even go that route.

Just because someone translated for Marquez does not give them the right to co-opt Spanglish, which is inherently a form of resistance for diasporic/marginalized people.
