I was looking forward to listening to this book because it was read by Justine Lupe. I enjoyed her character in the other Stephen King books and watching Lupe portray her character in the Mr. Mercedes series. I loved the other books in this little series, but this one didn't hit the mark.
I loved Lupe's narration. I didn't care for all the over usage of politics, COVID, the vaccines, masks, and everything that surrounded that time period. If King writes another book to go with this one, I hope he leaves all of that out. I felt like that took a lot away from the main plot. Other than that, I really enjoyed the mystery, gore, and the thrills.

This was a fantastic and suspenseful read. King's author's note at the end contextualizes the inherently political nature of the setting; it's based in 2021 and places itself firmly in the real events that were taking place, with characters reacting in realistic ways and the plot affected by the state of the world at that time. If you're coming to Stephen King hoping for lighthearted, unchallenging escapism, you're in the wrong place.

This may be my favorite Holly Gibney story so far. It’s 2021 and the pandemic is still raging onward. Holly is cautious, but her mother is a rabid anti-vaxxer and Trumper (because of course Charlotte is). After Charlotte’s death, Holly struggles to reconcile her grief and anger. She takes on a missing person case, and Holly soon discovers that sometimes evil comes in unexpected packages. Excellently written and gripping to the end.
