Decent King book…. Author fell flat in some areas, and the ending was underwhelming. Good book, but not “blow your socks off” great like a lot of his other stuff.

While Holly isn’t one of my favorite POV characters, she’s written with a lot of care and attention. Her quaint fussiness is jarring compared with the creeping evil elsewhere in the book, which I imagine is the intent. The murders themselves are imaginative, if a bit philosophically heavy-handed. On character and prose alone, this isn’t one of King’s best. However, it’s a masterwork of structure. The pieces fit together beautifully, never too conveniently easy nor conveniently unlucky. It’s immensely difficult to make something this precise yet sprawling, and King is as sharp as ever. Maybe someone should check his fridge.

This book had potential. But I didnt need a total play by play on Holly's routines. Oh and yhe constant smoking. Is this about catching some evil psychopaths murdering people or about Holly smoking again?

I rarely add to my DNF shelf anymore but this one made it by end of Chapter 7. I roll my eyes dramatically every time I tell someone why they shouldn't waste their time. The King is in DEAD! This book, quite frankly, sucked! It's gross. Even if I were a brainless liberal it would still be GROSS! I read to escape reality but 'the author' used this one to grandstand and throw daggers into people he hates. If I want to be drug through the year of Covid and hear about the nutcases that lost their mind with President Trump won his election and if I want to hear the twisted cheers for the current zombie occupying the Oval I'd turn on the news. The few chapters I read made me angry at first. Now I'm just sad because the King is dead.
