So I did really like this book, but I've gotta say the covid stuff was SO heavy handed. To be clear, I agree with King's politics, so I'm not just annoyed because I think he's wrong or something. It was just really exhausting to have it brought up on almost every page. And I would kind of get it if this had come out in early covid and he was trying to persuade people to take precautions, but it came out in 2023 so that doesn't really hold.
Overall it was a fun, disgusting story with some horrible people. So I would recommend it if you like the other Bill Hodges/Holly Gibney books, but just be warned that you're going to get smacked on the head with mask and vaccine talk.

This book had a great storyline but it felt over explained in parts. Maybe I forget how people acted during Covid as well but it felt like almost every page was explaining if someone had their mask on/was vaccinated/had what vaccine, and it took me out of the story a lot.

I was pretty torn on a rating for Holly. I enjoyed the plot and thought the idea of a cannibalistic elderly couple was pretty interesting and different. However. The strong Covid/vaccine talk throughout really wore on me. I didn’t mind his views or beliefs even if I did or did not agree with them, but it was just so heavily sprinkled throughout, I found myself rolling my eyes more than once. I know it was important to the storyline (kinda), but it got old pretty fast. No pun intended. I enjoyed it, but I probably would have skipped this one if I knew how hard I would drag ass to get through it.

I enjoyed this book but the reason for it not being a 5 star is because I did not like Barbara and I did not like the political parts this book had.
Also the story could have been better without Barbara in it and it could have shorten the length of the book.
I am interested in Holly's story though and will read her newest book.
