One can only hope to have the power to evoke the emotions and sensations that Syhlvia Plaths poetry is capable of. As a writer, Sylvia Plath, is fluid, vivid and extra ordinary...one of a kind! An absolute must for those who love poetry and a cannot live without for women who love poetry.

I was obsessed with Plath. Obsessed. I read pretty much every biography written about the woman. I couldn't get enough. She was the 2nd poet (Emily Dickinson was the first) that I really identified with and felt I could understand. "Daddy" was my introduction to Plath and to this day is one of my favorite poems.

By her own admission Sylvia Plath rarely discarded a poem—even if they were, in her eyes, imperfect she saved them all. For this we should all be grateful. Poetry as an art form can be rather subjective and artists, even those as gifted as Plath, can drift in and out of style. By presenting her work chronologically and without culling you can viscerally feel her growing as a poet. At the beginning of this collection I was wondering what all the fuss was about and by the end I could barely stand putting the book down.

one hell of a lyric poet. i 100% agree with j.c.o. that she is one of the last poets to really evoke the romantics. will probably revisit the ariel poems for some stuff on lyrical experimentation.

I definitely would like to revisit this book later in my life.

there were so many poems that encapsulated how I have felt so perfectly, that it was jarring to hear it put into words so eloquently.

It’s hard to write about poetry when, unlike prose, it can sometimes be even more open-ended with regards to interpretations and understanding.

However, in these collected poems, it’s easy to see the brilliance and the soul Plath had for poetry. Even if not every poem hits, Plath had a unique eye for minutiae, for the slightest splashes of emotion to the most overpowering waves.

Her style can perhaps be best defined as poignant, pointed, and definitely electric and full of life.

If there were ever a poet for the modern reader, experienced or green, Plath would be a worthy place to begin.
