"Have you ever had one of those days when it becomes painfully apparent that the universe is deliberately screwing with you?"
I had a lot of fun reading Mickey7 back in May, and I couldn't resist picking up the sequel when I was in the mood for a little change in genre and a dose of humor. I can't say that I was a fan of the movie adaptation that was basically the main reason for me to pick up the first book, but what I can say is that I enjoyed Antimatter Blues just as much as the first book. There is just something about the humor that is spot on for me, and this is probably the main reason these two books worked so well for me. I can understand why people would be disappointed if they are expecting a more in dept space/alien sci-fi experience... I think that this series isn't ment to be taken too seriously, and the journey can be highly entertaining if you are able to sit back and enjoy the ride. Mickey is such a fascinating character, and while his situation has changed in this sequel, his personality hasn't and Antimatter Blues is all the better because of it. I also quite enjoyed the new focus with more alien interaction and an adventure vibe with Mickey and a select group traveling to get their bomb back. Speaker is a brilliant addition! I honestly wasn't sure how they would ever find a way out of their mess, but it was a very entertaining journey indeed. A bit light on the sci-fi despite the aliens and foreign planet setting, but without doubt a great ending to this duology. It's also made me want to try more of this author in the future!
Graphic: Confinement, Cursing, Death, Gun violence, Panic attacks/disorders, Violence, Blood, Abandonment, Colonisation, War, Injury/Injury detail
5 star book when Speaker was there, 2.5-3 star book when Speaker wasn't there. overall not a bad follow up to Mickey7

Me encantó.

The stakes are just gone?? The whole colony is going to run out of power and die and somehow this is presented with 2% as much tension and oppressive fear as double Mickeys being discovered before they have a chance to starve to death. I’m bored!! also Nasha’s character is just shot, she’s causing problems totally OOC so Mickey can be the Everyman to fix them.

man. this book was such a disappointment of a sequel that I didn't even review it. Didn't have any of the wow factor that made the first book exciting to me. I did like the communication between the two groups of creepers/indigenous beings to this planet, but meh.
maybe I am still just mad about the BJH Movie.
