An incredibly unique and rewarding reading experience. The Bible meets National Geographic photojournalism meets 80s slasher flick all in the guise of an anti-Western nightmare. Everything was hyper-saturated. Some of the most beautiful and horrifying prose I have ever read.

Judge Holden is a twisted Nietzschean

Purchased at Strand, read with a Center for Fiction group.

I’m glad I gave it a try as I’ve been wanting to read McCarthy for a while - but it definitely wasn’t for me, and I probably won’t be reading McCarthy again.

I don't think the writing was too hard to follow, but I did have to Google a lot of words because McCarthy loves his rocks, his landforms, his old-timey words. I feel like I need to revisit this book later on to fully ingest the message, the motifs, what each character says and does. It's definitely a book that stays with you.

An incredibly violent book, providing an intimate look into a psychopath’s head.

A deconstruction of the mythologized North American old west, tearing away the veneer of respectability and civilization. Stark, horrific, violent, and weirdly beautiful at times. Not for those with a sensitive constitution.
