I felt the the Riordan formula of "what-if-XYZ-was-real" does not really work with the basis of Jules Verne's novel..: it just feels completelly unrealistic that those technologies couls have been invented so long ago by one single man. Not having a magical/mythical element makes the setting unbelievable and I could not get into the story as much.

I also got the impression the submarine is the hero more the the main character, whi just gets told the solutions or sumbles onto rhem.

As engaging as Riordan's other books, but instead of ancient myths, based on the Jules Verne canon, specifically 20,000 Leagues under the sea.  What if Captain Nemo's creations weren't fictitious?  Makes sense even if you haven't read Verne.  Great adventure story. Violence levels OK for MS readers.  Jupiter, the baking orangutan is a fantastic creation.  He adores Mary Berry from Bake Off and creates gourmet food with mostly seaweed proteins.

Overall really good, again, I, a grown up with too much time on her hands, asks if it is weirdly militaristic, but then probably most of Riordan’s books are if one thinks about them too hard, so why did it stand out to me here?  Who knows, I am an illogical creature of unreason.
Anyhow, cool submarine, engaging story.  A quick read.
