A dark fairytale reminiscent of Uprooted by Naomi Novik, but with sapphic romance and a fascinating magical twist. 

This book was highly atmospheric and very slow-paced. The main character struggles with isolation, issues of self-worth, and abandonment, and most of the book is highly reflective of these themes. The rest is focused on the mystery of the witch, in which clues are revealed very slowly. So if you’re looking for something action-packed and digestible, this is not the book. The tone of the book was primarily mysteries and reflective. 

While I originally thought it was somewhat derivative, the reveals of the magic system were pleasant surprise, and I ultimately found it compelling and creative.
