Oh my goodness, I loved it. I don’t read a lot of found family tropes but clearly I’ve been missing out. It’s crazy, I started reading because of the marriage of convenience trope but there was actually very little romance in the book. I’m so happy with the ending though. Life doesn’t always have a happy ending so it’s incredibly important for me to read books that do. This book gave me hope and joy. Truly loved it, almost started crying at the end. The one thing I didn’t like was the incorporation of Hannah and Tom’s love story. I didn’t pick up the book to read about them so it was frustrating to me because it took away focus from the main characters. It also didn’t have any impact on the main story line, especially the way the author went about it. What’s the point of having the reader learn of a love story none of the characters in the book know about themselves?! Didn’t really make sense. Also, Hannah and Tom had the same amount of romance as Emmeline and Will. What’s up with that? I would give the book a 5 if they had included more romance between them. I was really looking forward to Emmeline and Will exploring their relationship when I first picked up the book. So a bit disappointed with that. I still really enjoyed it which is the most important criterion for me.

Docking a point for casually using the "g" slur in 2022. Even if it's historic.
