I enjoyed the middle of the story once I put aside the bothersome beginning and reassertions that they were such close childhood friends and neighbors that they at one time believed they were actually siblings, yet he had never seen her childhood home and only knew it from her description.
I admired the patience they had with the children.
Even though the ending is what I hoped for in the story though, there was something that didn't feel complete about it.

I’m generally a Scrooge when it comes to kids as main characters but this wasn’t actually bad
This is definitely more of a family drama/comedy, but it's also sort of a romance (not the sexy kind). The first part of the book was hard to get through-why is this lady lying so much, and when will they actually get the orphans??? But once they do get the orphans, it was really fun. I didn't totally understand the two main adult characters, and the book probably would have benefited from a bit more about them before the lies come out, but also that was the least fun part of the book, so maybe it was for the best after all.

Set during the Regency Era, Emmeline has been married to twenty-eight year old William Pershing for eight years.
When her great-grandfather the Duke of Welshire celebrates his 70th birthday; the occasion unveils a lie Emmeline has been keeping secret.

Not quite what I expected! The premise is completely wild, and I wouldn't have minded if the romance had not taken such a backseat. Lots of hijinks from the kids, but without any steam this easily could have been 100pgs shorter.
This book was such an amazing journey. While I was almost certain I knew the end of the book at about the halfway point, there were still many surprises that kept me on the edge of my seat. The portrayal of each character's emotions took me on a ride with each and every word. I truly recommend this book if you are looking for a lighthearted, sweet book.
