I found this book a bit of a slog to get through, to be honest. I wanted to like it and I wanted to like the characters, but I put it down for months before finishing it because it took me so long to get through with how uninterested I was in the story.

Emmeline has a big dilemma - she loves her home but her family has strict rules as to who may occupy it. Cue a rushed wedding and some lies about her “family”. Of course, this can only lead to trouble. But will she be able to keep the home in the end?

I really didn’t care for Emmeline in the first quarter of the book. In fact, I almost didn’t continue reading. She began very selfish, very hoity-toity and lacking any level of empathy for others. But little by little she learns throughout the book and I appreciated that.

The whole premise was a bit iffy in “borrowing” orphans to be a part of the family and again, wasn’t a fan, but all I can say is just keep reading. This book is a journey full of life lessons for all.

Thank you to @smpromance for the complimentary copy of this book. The review expresses my own personal opinions.

Something in the Heir by Suzanne Enoch is a bit of a far-fetched story, but I thoroughly enjoyed it and didn't want it to end. It is the story of Emmeline and William Pershing, a couple brought together so she wouldn't lose rights to living at her family home, Winnover. Once her parents decided to move out, per her grandfather's (The Duke of Wilshire) demands it would go to whichever of her or her cousins was married first. Her mother broke the news when Emmeline wasn't even yet engaged and she did not want to give up Winnover, especially to her newly engaged horrific cousin. Emmeline quickly was able to round up her childhood friend, William, to marry her. The second stipulation was that she had to produce an heir within five years. Emmeline and William weren't able to have children so they 'borrowed' a couple of orphans to satisfy this portion of the command when they were required to attend her grandfather's birthday party. These children, George and Rose, were quite spirited, to say the least, and it was questionable whether or not the plan would even work out. The story moved along at a good pace and there were a lot of hi jinx and fun to be had. Thanks to St Martin's Press and NetGalley for the eARC. All opinions shared are influenced by nothing other than my own reading experience.

All the characters are so loveable and charming! Would have been five stars but the ending was a little too neat and fast for me personally.

I really loved the characters, their banter, and how the interact with one another. Reading this book i had to set aside my anti-adoption brain to fully enjoy the story as what they were doing was unethical. i like how the kids acted like real orphans, they knew a hard life so their not gulliable while also always behaving and thinking as children. The romance was okay, it a second chance romance but honestly i think this was a more found family story than romance.  Also this book was very funny at times.
