I understand this was written the way it was to set up the plot but I can't find myself thinking well of anyone who thinks they can "borrow" children and that really cast a shadow over the entire thing

I felt like the ethics were really sketchy for most of the book. The romance was sidelined by the plot with the kids, which was sweet, but I started the book for one reason, and that ended up being a minor plotline.

Thank you St. Martin's Press and NetGalley for the gifted ebook of Something in the Heir!  All opinions in this review are my own.

I will be honest, I'm usually not a huge fan of kids in romance novels but George and Rose really stole the show with this one!  I listened to the audiobook and Sarah Nichols does an excellent job voicing the two children and all of their schemes.

However, I wish we had a little more interaction between Emmeline and Will to show their relationship strenthening.  While they do talk about their relationship at points, most of their conversations revolved around the children.  I would have liked to see them opening up to each other more instead of hearing them thinking to themselves about how they are falling for the other one.

Overall, this was a fun marriage of convenience historical romance!

3⭐️⭐️⭐️. This book has been on my currently reading shelf since September. SEPTEMBER. I’m thrilled to be finally done with it! It wasn’t terrible, but it definitely wasn’t my favorite. I think it was trying to do too much. The romance was underwhelming from all sides, there were like 6 different POVs for no apparent reason, and the conflict was entirely created by everyone’s poor decision making rather than any actual issues. That being said, I did enjoy the two kids and the side plot with the maid and the butler. Overall, I rate this book a solid “meh.”

Also I blame this book entirely for my 8% netgalley ratio since this is what made me stop plowing through ARCs and destroy my percentage LOL

lots of amazing elements, but not a great execution. this couldn’t decide what it wanted to be. if it wanted to be a rom-com, it needed to spend less time on the kids. also, the premise of two rich people “borrowing” two orphans in order to keep their mansion is icky.
