Something in the Heir was a fun historical novel about a couple who needed to have kids to keep their house but didn't. Will and Emmeline come up with a scheme to borrow two kids from an orphanage to try and fool her family. This book had a lot of really good side plots and other focuses but not enough of Will and Emmeline fixing their marriage. The fix and the solution all seemed so rushed while other plotlines were unnecessarily stretched out. Overall a good read and I look forward to reading more from Suzanne Enoch in the future!

Overall, this was a good story but I didn’t love it. I did feel invested while reading, I liked the details and descriptions and build to the end.
The story starts out pretty fun and I was laughing as Emmie had to tell Will about making up children. What I learned about their history I liked but it wasn’t very in-depth, more like mentions of past feelings. There was a romance happening but it felt very subtle, so if you blinked, you missed it. Since Will and Emmie were already married, it felt like their coming together was a footnote. It was more about the kids and them becoming a family. The kids were great! I felt for them and how hard they had to work to take care of themselves. I liked them all coming together and bits of humor throughout. There was a bit of a twist that brought some drama, I liked how everyone came together to deal with it. Mostly I felt for the kids and couldn't wait for Emmie to figure out what was important.
There's a nice cast of characters with the servants, helping to create a few entertaining scenes. There was a short side story about a couple and I felt those two had more chemistry than Will and Emmie. There were some descriptions that were repetitive throughout the story and while I was happy to get to the end, I felt it was rather predictable. Since the romance was so low-key, it was very much a slow burn with only a few on-page kisses.
I say it was good because I was always looking forward to what would happen next but I was missing a true, heartfelt romance. Thanks to the kids and them becoming a family, it was a sweet and heartwarming read.

I have been on a historical romance kick recently and I thought the premise of this one was cute - a couple with a marriage of convenience has to pretend to have kids and find some orphans to pass off as their own. Although it sounded promising, I didn’t love this one. It was definitely a slower burn of a story which I don’t mind, but I didn’t really see the romantic connection between the two leads, instead just getting more friend vibes from them. There were also a lot of random minor plot lines included in the story that I did not think needed to be. The kids were cute enough, and I am always a sucker for a found family story, but this one didn’t really connect with me. I think there could be a really great story in this book but as it stands, it just wasn’t for me. 👥🔓🌥

I thought there would be more hijinks with the children (there was some) but it wasn't what I expected. I'd say the plotline kind of turned from what I thought it would be and sometimes it was good, other times not so much.
There wasn't a ton of romance either, for a historical romance, but I still enjoyed the characters and story without it.

Not at all spicy on the romantic end, but fluffy and ridiculous. Not as much of a romance as it is a comedy, I was reminded, oddly enough, of LM Montgomery and various sprightly children in her books when I was reading it.
If you came for the already married people falling in love again romance I don't know that you'd be satisfied. But I was overly charmed by George and Rose, as well as the cast of servants and the complete over the topness of the premise.

Very cute - if somewhat predictable- book. It got some bad reviews because it was classified as a “historical romance” when it’s more chick lit than bodice ripper, but I thought the book was great!
