solidly written/researched but nothing groundbreaking - might have felt a bit more illuminating if i read it a few years ago?

Ezra Klein rallies his audience at the end of the book by writing: “If we can do a bit better tomorrow, we will be doing much much better than we have ever done before.” This flaccid, tone-deaf moralizing pretty much sums the whole book, but boy oh boy do I have so many issues with it. Klein can shove his practical idealism up his ass :)

I’ve been on a nonfiction politics kick lately and I enjoyed this over all. I learned a lot from it and I feel like it gave me a lot to think about. It’s very smartly written and makes a dense, complicated subject engaging. It offers some interesting and exciting policy solutions, however, it seems deeply unlikely that any of them will or even could be implemented any time soon, which is rather depressing.

Really clear cogent and very readable case for why modern politics is the way it is in the US. Lots of good insights and things to chew on for the future. As someone who thinks in systems and contexts, this was particularly appealing to me but I'm also deeply aware that changing the incentives that create these systems is going to be especially difficult.

I hated this book because it was full of a lot of truth that pissed me off.
