I opted not to judge this book by its corny cover art because I love Robert Webb.

A woman finds herself alone after her husband of 28 years dies unexpectedly of an undiagnosed brain tumor. After giving up hope, she falls asleep and finds herself magically back in time to the first day that they met, and sets about to warn him of the tumor that has already taken root in his younger brain. I listened to the audiobook, read by the magnificent Olivia Colman. I must say, if it was not read by such an engaging actor, I probably would have given up on this book. This book was an incredibly frustrating read. I found myself angrily muttering to “get to the POINT” more then a few times. The plot meanders down SO many pointless paths that in hindsight, most of this plot could have probably been a short story!! We are painstakingly introduced to EVERY side character with completely irrelevant conversations that end up serving no point at all. The author goes on so many tangents that there is literally a scene involving a high speed cab chase by the Russian mafia. And it is NOT a short scene. Why is that entire story line even in this book????? Obviously I am still frustrated. I liked the idea of this book but overall it just took WAY to long and WAY too much slogging through extra (random, unnecessary) content to get there.

[Notes for me] Book of 3 parts. 1st and 2nd very good, some really funny bits. I would have liked the 2nd section set in the 90s to be longer and an expansion on the perception of Luke from a 40 year old's more rounded eye and the emotions that aroused would have been good. 3rd part was the weakest and almost from a different book, complete change in pace and style. Would have been a 5 star book if the 3rd part were shortened.

Listened as an audio book and Olivia Coleman was excellent. One of the best I've heard.
