This book made me feel so many things, especially with Chaol and Celeana. They were adorable, from the first book i could tell something was going to happen between them, but when Chaol got kidnapped and celeana came to get him, and then Nehemia dying! like i was in shock, complete shock, that entire part was very heart wrenching. Then with Archer, that little shit. I had a bad feeling from him the start, i was feeling the anger that Celeana was. I was just like "KILL HIM ALREADY, HE DESERVES TO DIE" and then he did i was like "YES" because that little bin chicken was the worst i hate him so much, i wanted to punch something because he made Chaol and Celeana's relationship never be the same again and i hate him because i love them together their were cute. And at the end when Celeana turned into a fae, i wasn't surprised because i got spoilers from another review on here! and didn't put in the spoiler section! anyways but then Chaol getting Celeana to go to wendlyn, like i know that he was trying to protect her but now she has to kill the royal family there?! like??? and then it ends with Finding out that Celeana is Aelin?! this book was just made so much emotions rise in me and i loved this book, alot.

Overall this book was a emotional rollercoaster, it had so many plot twist, heartbreak and shocking moments. I really liked the book, i enjoyed it more than the first one actually. I just couldn't stop reading it, i was glued to it and couldn't stop until i finished it.

This was a great continuation of the story started in TOG (or TAB if you started with the prequel) that had a lot of action in a short amount of time. That being said, the beginning was extremely slow to me. It was almost like we were relearning everything that already happened and who the characters are for a good portion of this book.

I feel as though this book and TOG were setting up the series and Celaena now finally knows what she needs to do. Of course there will be more discovery on her end in the other 5 books but now we seem to be starting her adventure rather than going through daily life with her.

Overall I really enjoyed the book! The only thing keeping it from 5 stars is how slow the beginning was.

Sadly I didn’t enjoy this book as much as the first.

I found certain plot points and to be predictable (the purpose of Nehemiah’s with Elena and the big reveal at the end) and some character actions to be cringy (ditching guard duty to dance? Good god 🙄). And some of the names in this series are the stupidest I’ve ever heard (‘Baba Yellowlegs - seriously?).

And don’t even get me started on Celaena’s level of incompetency at times 😤. The most egregious example being this: “Did you kill Davis because you were snooping in his office, he caught you then cut you with a drugged blade?”
Ladies and gentlemen, meet Adarlan’s greatest assassin 🤦🏻‍♀️

The prose was fine for the most part but every now and then SJM would drop a weird phrase that would have me thinking “what does that even mean?” (Example: “His face radiated a sense of maleness” 🧐)

In spite of all that, the story was enjoyable enough and I loved the introduction of new characters Mort and Archer Finn (Archer gave me Finnick Odair vibes, which i was totally here for).

There’s one thing that’s still bugging me: there was a POV from a random slave girl in Calaculla, and I’m trying to figure out if this is relevant to the plot at all or just a red herring. 🤔 I guess I’ll find out.

On to book 3……..
