Very neutral feelings about this one. A bit of autumn mood-reading. I'm not remotely interested in insta-love, and this book was heavily devoted to it. No one falls in love at the sight of hedgehog pajamas- I repeat, no one. Also, the walking red-flag that is Norman (Norman? Nigelle? I dunno, forgettable old grump) was unacceptable in a book like this. The only thing that really hit home were some of the fmc feelings about finding her boss dead at his desk and her struggles with self worth outside of her job as an EA, and that stems mostly from my background. Otherwise, I was more interested in some of the secondary characters that I'm sure get explored in the next installments. Might read them, might not

"The nature of her job had been to make sure Marvin had everything he needed to do his job. But who made sure she had everything she needed?" (Laurie Gilmore, The Pumpkin Spice Café)

"‘And besides, everyone is bad at life in one way or another,’ Hazel added. Jeanie sighed. ‘It just used to feel like maybe I was good at it. I had my job, and I did it well and I just ... I don’t know, I did what I was supposed to do. And now, here ... it’s not as clear.’ ‘There’s no ‘supposed to do’ Jeanie,’ Hazel said, her eyes earnest behind her glasses. ‘I know. That’s the problem, I guess. I feel a little lost.’" (Laurie Gilmore, The Pumpkin Spice Café).

Cute but lacked any depth to the characters or the romance

A little too cheesy/cringe for me, though I was looking for something silly and lighthearted. Also, I was hoping this would be more cozy wholesome romance given all the recommendations online and the general vibe of the book/description but it was more smutty than I expected. I'm not a prude and this is marketed as a romance so I was expecting some spice but after finishing the book it really feels like the sex/alleged sexiness/tension between the characters seems to be the most interesting thing going on. The writing was also just subpar or just bad at times, I've read much more interesting/well-written lighthearted cheesy romance books that I've enjoyed.
