Nice read for the fans of Cyberpunk'77, few interesting lore tidbits, likeable cast of characters, somewhat light read. As for the ending, "A happy ending? For folks like us? Wrong city, wrong people."

Please beware possible spoilers for Cyberpunk 2077 (I honestly can’t think of any, but it’s possible there’s something).

Night City, where names are made. Where the good die young, the bad ascend to the stars, and the desperate are always in full supply.

A new gang has risen from the streets of Arroyo, a group formed completely from the desperate—those with something to lose. Their heist: a certain container, one they are not to open, but is to be made to disappear at all costs. Its cargo may be unknown but is surely priceless. Gold idols, military secrets, the severed hand of God—rumors run rampant.

Of the assailants, little is known. A Militech sleeper, an amateur netrunner, a corporate negotiator, an aging ripperdoc, a vet turned rogue, and a tech junkie with more ambition than brains. Assembled by Warden, their mysterious fixer. One job down, and the whole city’s talking about them. Second job, not nearly so clean, but they’re making waves in the city where legends are born. Third job, fourth job, fifth job—the sky’s the limit for the bangers. If only they could learn to work together, or else attain some level of competence.

Welcome to Night City, where names are made, and hope goes to die.

Even in theory, transferring one's consciousness was a thorny procedure. A person isn't made up of only data, but memories, habits, personality traits, skills. A person is a process, which means it needs a system to run it. In one of his data extractions, Albert discovered a theoretical study that attempted to untangle questions such as how to digitize a human being. Whether you can "run" a human and reboot it even from death. And even if the simulation was flawless, how would you know whether it was actually processing consciousness? Can the posthuman still be a human, or just a digi-puppet? One more problem to solve.

A cyberpunk novel for the ages, even if it is tied in with one of the most polarizing games of our time. If you played it on launch—you’re sure to hate what was basically a broken mess. But if you came to Cyberpunk 2077 later—after several patches, and a next-gen update—it’s a damn good game. I think this will be the best selling point for the tie-in: if you liked the game, I think you’ll like the novel; if you hated the game… well, the jury’s out, but probably skip it. If you didn’t play the game at all—well, you’ll be out of depth, likely lost on some terms and titles, but it’s still a good read, and a damn good cyberpunk one.

Both the setting and characters sold this for me; two things I loved about the game—Night City, and the people within it. These characters are more of the same; the low, the desperate, those with something to lose or nothing at all. Zor, Aya, and somehow Borg were my favorites. Dum Dum makes a cameo—and I loved him. But most of all I loved being back in Night City! From my hundred-plus hours with the game, I was well acquainted with the streets and alleys, and the story transported me right back to them.

The story itself is decent—a good tie-in to the game’s story—with a group trying to make a name for themselves, their fortune, or die in a blaze of glory. Each one wants something different, and at times those interests collide. But other times they parallel. The back and forth, on and off cooperation, the desperation all combine to make this the great read it is. One that, again, if you enjoyed the game, I whole-heartedly recommend!

Good edition to cyberpunk genre specifically towards the game if you wanted a more expanded perspective on the game and city... However so many characters make it hard to latch on and stay invested as every few pages you get a new POV.
