I read this last year in April and only gave it 4 stars because I was so frustrated that Katniss and Peeta had to play the Games again. Re-reading it again has given me the ability to enjoy the book without that frustration. I realized that Suzanne Collins made Katniss and Gale really passionately romantic, but gave Katniss and Peeta's relationship a real sense of romanticism and peace. I really like that difference. She really sets the 2 boys apart from each other and how it's very understandable that in the third book, Katniss would choose Peeta's peace over Gale's fire. Going out of 2012 with a re-reading of the Hunger Games series feels very....right for some reason. Woot!

If the first book didn't win me over, catching fire definitely did... I was uneasy going into it because I wasn't ready to meet new tributes that would capture my heart like Rue did, but boy did I not expect what happened instead. I am so so attached to many of the recurring characters and the depth in their motives and experiences. I really enjoyed this and immediately started Mockingjay. It's all flowing together in my brain so I really hope that I can distinguish what happens in which book when it comes time to write my review for Mockingjay.

Anyways, about the arena, GENIUS. The whole process of foreshadowing and little details that made me as the reader vaguely suspicious are the kinds of things I cherish as a reader. I felt physiological reactions to this book, I felt chills up my spine, my heart raced, and tears pricked my eyes. I am SO here for it.
