what i would give to have read this before i watched the movie UGGEDHDH also this was the first time i cried while reading a book i think. particularly when she visited district 11 and gave her speech to rue’s family, and just any time she would think about rue my heart literally shattered.
the parts of her life after the 74th games that weren’t shown in the movie were so special to me. her crying to her mother and prim when the quarter quell was announced, her stylists being genuinely devastated when they realized she would go back to the arena, her meeting the rebels from district 8 and the whole fiasco of getting back across the fence after the peacekeepers turned it back on… i can go on and on I LOVE THIS BOOK SO MUCHHHHH

First half of this book was extremely dull, and the latter half seemed glossed over. Enjoyable in it's own right, but not a must-read.

I read this series when I was 16. I donated it to my old neighborhood library when I moved out my parents. Ohh the mistake! I m re-reading at age 27, 12 years later because of the new book with proproganda themes.
I just love it! I loved it then and I love it now. But in very diferent ways. Then I hadn't been in love, real love, love that make you think you will die if the other person's dies. So the love story didn't hit much, and at the time I though I loved it. Katnis suffering while she is helpless to save Petta I just can't deal... I m not prepared for the next book. And of course now I understand the message even better, the capatislism analogy is perfection. The Capitol being the 1% not actually contributing to the goods and means of production but getting all the power. Some districts of course are better off than others but still all under the opression of the Capitol reaping their children among other forms of control. Making clear the message, diferent classes are an illusion only 2 are real the working class and the capatilist. Or at least thst is what my left leaning brain sees.
