I listened to the audio book for this one and the narrator is incredible! I've listened to this book twice, a few years apart, and I rated it slightly lower originally, but it really stuck with me, lingering in the back of my mind. Upon this second listen, I decided to up my rating. It just hits a specific itch I struggle to scratch.

I love the writing style for this genre and setting. Kathe Koja does such a good job poetically describing the dirty, gritty world the characters live in and the body horror is both grotesquely and beautifully written - I imagine it's the same kind of awed horror and dread the characters in this experience when looking at/into the funhole.

The athmosphere in this story was palpable, but it didn’t quite grab me. Could’ve maybe benefited from being condenced? I got bored at many parts, which is really saying something because I’m all about ”no plot, just vibes” type of books.
