I love this series for both the history and the utterly dry toned humour.  They feel light-hearted, but do have some difficult themes.
Can the plots get a touch predictable? Sure.
Are they still good anyway? For my money absolutely.

Animal cruelty is less cruelty and more harm. Briefly described. Animal death occurs off screen only, and not to featured animals. Kidnapping is a big plot point,

sexual violence is threatened as part of this. Actual kidnapping is over quickly, but the consequences and fallout make up a large part of the book. A second kidnapping happens and is also swiftly escaped.

Sexism and misogyny happen both in historic contexts and modern ones, many times for the former. Both are defied or fought against in various ways. Death occurs or is implied to several times,

there are two instances in some detail. One relatively peaceful, the other less so.

Violence is somewhat frequent, but detail mostly happens in cases of retaliation. Sexual assault happens briefly several times

largely in search of the person contexts, further assault or violence is threatened but never happens.

Gun violence happens around the time police or other violent situations. Little detail is given. Medical content is quite regular. Some is simple check ups with professionals,

other times illness is more severe and sometimes involves treatment by field medics. Hallucinations occur in one section.
