This book had so many unexpected twists that it had me screaming into a pillow (in a good way!). I really loved that it explained the history behind all of the Egypt references as I would have been completely lost otherwise. I really enjoyed it

The fatphobia in this book bothered me, though I think the intent behind its use in the story was probably not negative, it reflects a lot of negative views and I did not like that or the way it was 'resolved'. Otherwise I found this a really interesting book, where I learned a lot about Ancient Egyptian death rites, and the role of a death doula in contemporary USA. Some of the scenes with the main character's husband Brian annoyed me, they seemed to be written in an overly schmaltzy way and I'm not sure what the aim here was. I didn't like the way 'scientific' was set up as the opposite of emotonal. Brian seemed autistic coded to me - I'm autistic and have good emotional insight, I found this to be an unhelpful sterotype. That all sounds very negative but I did enjoy this book, I would have liked it to be a little faster paced, but it had a lot of interesting details that I learned and I liked that it discussed issues of how we make choices in life and how you can't really get to my age (nearly 40) without having at least one 'path not taken' that you wonder about - and how do you resolve this and go forward.

Jodi Picoult has done it again. I honestly thought I wouldn't like the book that much because it didn't sound like something I'd be interested in, but I enjoyed every minute because of her flawless writing and story. I waited a lot to get the book in my hands and did not regret it. Totally recommend this one

I had a bit of a tough time understanding time in this book, but based on the author’s descriptions of the concept of the multiverse and there being multiple planes of reality within which we and other versions of ourselves exist, I think it was meant to be a bit confounding. I loved the characters of this book and the way that Picoult talks about how love isn’t singular or static, how you can love more than one person at the same time, how you can not be with someone but still never fall out of love with them. I loved the conversations about death and how it should teach us something about life — they brought me some peace in my own grieving. This is the kind of book I wish I could experience again for the first time.
