My review is here:https://goldintheclouds-faith.blogspot.com/2021/04/2021-book-review-14-book-of-two-ways.html

she's brilliant but...this was just way too cumbersome of a read. Too much Egyptology for me and the 2 timelines were confusing at times.....def not a fave and I've loved ALL books! Rather disappointed in this one although as always her character development is exquisite and her endings......just always so well done! she is truly a master of story telling. This just wasn't one to grab me. I thought it would never end.

This was….really awful. My least favourite of Picoult’s by far, and I’ve read most of her work. This was so different, it was so long, so boring and repetitive and just tooooo much. The opposite of most of the negative reviews, I enjoyed the Egyptology aspect, I have an interest in those topics and I preferred that aspect of the book compared to Dawn’s personal life.
That’s where I had most of the issues with this story, this tried to be really deep and profound, commenting I guess on how imperfect humans are; how life can change and go one way or another depending on certain decisions, it just failed. Dawn and almost all of the characters were so flawed but very unlikeable.
The closer I got to the end, the more I disliked this. I listened to the audiobook and I was confused about the timeline jumping forward and back, the crash and the letter and all that.
Here are my specific complaints: Dawn is awful. Dawn is selfish, and how can she get mad at Brian for calling her that? Beyond me.
Dawn is entitled to her own feelings, that’s fine, but she went about everything in the worst possible way. Abandoning her child, she just shit on her husband and then turns around and does kind of the same thing but way worse, but it’s okay because “she never stopped loving him” even though they didn’t know each other that well and she hadn’t seen him in 15 years? Right.
She invites this man, who is engaged, and they’ve already cheated on their partners, into her life, into the home she shares with her husband while he’s at work, referring to her daughter as his daughter right away, just completely disregarding and disrespecting her husband, even though she was so hard on him for almost kind of not cheating on her?
Wyatt is one of the worst romantic interests I’ve ever read, she always refers to him as charming and cocky but it was gross and cringey, just another person making shitty decisions, him and Dawn deserve each other.
Dawn says it was just her and Kieran for years meanwhile she was pregnant and with Brian right away when her mom died, also when her life flashes before her eyes the only person she thinks about is Wyatt, not even her daughter!!!!! The way Wyatt talks to her in intimate scenes was just the most cringey stuff.
I found listening to all the Egyptology information over audiobook confusing and really hard to remember, this just drowned on and on. Also Win, adding more characters in, another person doing something that hurts their partner. Just way too many subjects being covered, with Meret and the weight thing too. She doesn’t even fulfill Win’s wish, instead just in the hospital with Wyatt judging Brian for not staying with her but joking with her and making love in the hospital right after he leaves. I just can’t.
I really don’t recommend this, it’s typical in the authors way that it is well researched, but it’s so different from her other stories and just didn’t work.
