  | Joan’s story was not what I expected from her. She was so confident and secure in the previous book, but she just seemed too vulnerable and needy here. I didn’t quite get Max either, he capitulated to changing everything about him too easily. They definitely had heat though, and where they came from, and how they got to where they were was interesting enough. The story was good, but the characters left me wondering quite a bit

STRONG content warnings. This author writes beautifully complex characters and fraught sex scenes extremely well. The prose is gorgeous and the humanity is aching. Hot strippers. Bisexuality. Refusal to accept surface, forced intimacy. Self-sacrifice. Family reunions. Stripper with an ass of gold.

Cults. Drugs. Violence. Sex as a weapon. Control and dominance. Death of parents. Struggle to accept love. Self-destructive shit. Kidnapping. Bombs.

I love this series but, this book didn't quite do it for me. This is Max & Joan's book. We met them both in the first 2 books. Joan is a stripper at a hardcore, rough strip club that's run buy a biker gang. Max is Dylan's brother who's the leader of said biker gang even though he wants out. So, Joan used to be part of a commune run by the sadistic monster Lagan. He happens to have Joan's sister as one of his sister wives. Joan wants to get her sister back but, when she left the commune, Lagan moved it so she couldn't ever find it. Because she can't find the commune she goes back to the strip club to fuck shit up knowing that Lagan is there. She sets off a few bombs & Max gets shot in the process by a fellow biker member. Joan kidnaps Max & takes him to her Aunts over 50 condo complex to recoup. While there Joan tried to get Max's help because she knows that's the only way she can help her sister. Max has 'business' dealings with Lagan so Joan is banking on Lagan contacting Max.

I couldn't connect with the characters & I didn't really love Joan. I hate to say but, I liked her better as a secondary character in the other books. I couldn't really grasp her thought process of making decisions. Her personality was also a bit to hard for me. Yet, I kinda get why she is the way she is. There's this one scene that involved Max, Joan & another woman (that Joan picked up out of the blue) that was unnecessary. HOT but completely unnecessary. It didn't add anything of substance to the story being told. I did love Max. How could you not?! He's a total bad boy badass that has tattoos, talks dirty, likes it dirty & rough but, is also sweet when he needs to be.

In complete honesty, there were times in this book that I was bored. I would just skim a little here & there. It wasn't until about the 75% mark that it really started to get good. I thought it could've been a little darker, more story on Lagan & his commune that held Jennifer (Joan's sister). I loved the epilogue & thought it left an opening for more books in this series. I'm really hoping for Blake's book next!

This was such a great read! It was my first book by this author and though it is the third in a series, I didn't feel like I missed out on anything while reading. I could tell that there was more to know about another couple, and I really wanted to know more just to because of my own curiosity and because I could tell there was a good story there, but not knowing did not hamper my enjoyment of Burn Down The Night all!

I will, however, be going back to read the first two books in the series, just because I enjoyed book 3 so much and I'm greedy for more from this world and the characters within it. And speaking of characters...I couldn't get enough of Max and Olivia AKA Joan; talk about the sexual tension!!! These two were on fire!!! Burn Down The Night was definitely the hottest book I've read in a long time!

Olivia/Joan was one hot mess with a thirst for vengeance, and Max was a biker with a bullet wound and a target on his back. Neither of their futures seem very promising, right? I had no idea what would happen until it actually happened, and a lot of chaos ensues between the explosive beginning and the edge of your seat ending, all of which had me completely hooked!

Burn Down The Night is a suspenseful, exciting, and insanely sexy story which I thoroughly enjoyed! Bring on the rest of the series!

I really didnt expect to like this book. After loving Annie and Dylan, and seeing the pieces of Joan and Max that the first two books delivered... I just didnt expect it. But the characters definitely grew on me and I enjoyed the harder edges.

Honestly I was hoping for something similar to Lana Sky's Crescendo where the H and h have a very intense hate-sex relationship that gradually turns into a loving hate-sex relationship.

This book didn't quite nail it, but it was pretty close especially in the first half. The tension was thiiiick and the smut was hot. Just a heads up, this book does involve a F/F scene with the h while the H watches, in case that is not up your alley. Personally, I thought the scene was really well-done. It had the purpose of building the h's characterization, rather than just being a random scene thrown in for the sake of a kink.

The second half of this book is where things fell short for me. The H(Max) became too nice almost overnight, despite all his previous attempts to threat the h(Joan) for keeping him cuffed in a room. Joan and her never-ending self-blaming also grated on my nerves a bit.

Andddd, I'll be honest and admit that I skimmed the last few chapters because I really gave zero shits about the plot with the psycho cult leader. Sorry Lathan.

Overall, even though I wasn't amazed, this was a pretty solid read.
